McTavish Longboards

Mctavish longboardsBack in the 60's Mctavish was one of the leading surfboard designers, bringing down the length and weight of the typical longboards seen in the states and adding more rocker to provide boards that allowed more "involvement". He has been attributed for spearheading the shortboard movement in the late 60's.

The 70's saw Bob Mctavish excel in the design of the single fins perfect for the surf in and around the Byron/Lennox heads area. He was the first to introduce the flyers and swallow tails during this period and progresses into the twin fin era while shaping and working with Sky Surfboards Byron Bay.

The 80's saw a small revival back to the longboards, however generally the 80's were a mixed bag, and we're still not sure what to make of the fluorescent colours and bad hair - so the 90's rolled on ....

In the 90's Bob Mactavish began working with epoxy boards and began the famous big M label with his son Ben. This is the decade that saw the longboard re-incarnated and by the end of the 90's there were as many longboards back in the water as there were shortboards.

Now in 2007, Mctavish has released 3 new longboard models taking your choice to some 19 different moels in all. Classics such as the Noosa 66, the Fireball, the Egg and Blue Bird are all available.
